Roundball Roundup: Oscoda wins back-to-back Big Dipper titles; Schook’s 11 points leads Hillman past Au Gres-Sims

ALCONA, Mich. — Monday night was a hard-fought battle between the top two teams in the Big Dipper (Oscoda and Alcona). In the end, the Owls edged the Tigers winning 41-34. With the victory, Oscoda has clinched another Big Dipper title.

Lauren Langley led the Owls in the scoring department with 15 points. Jessica Montgomery added eight points and Izzy Hulverson finished with seven points. Kelsey Hanson paced the Tigers with 14 points and Anna Loyer finished with 11 points. Nine of those points were from beyond the three-point arc.

Both teams return to action on Thursday. Oscoda will host Whittemore-Prescott and Alcona will be in Rogers City for a meeting with the Hurons.

HALE, Mich. — Ever since the Vikings lost to the Oscoda Owls back on Jan 24, Posen has been dominating the floor. They picked up another road win as they defeated the Hale Eagles 74-49. With the victory, Posen improves to 12-2 and remains unbeaten in the Little Dipper (8-0).

Riley Krajniak had herself a night. The senior scored a career-high of 29 points. Makayla Kamyszek finished with 13 points and Elena Kalbitzer added 12 points. Posen returns to action on Wednesday. They will be in Mio to take on the Thunderbolts.

Meanwhile, the Eagles have now lost five of their last six games. Hale will look to bounce back on Friday as they will take on the Atlanta Huskies.

AU GRES, Mich. — Another strong performance from the Hillman Tigers. They took care of business on the road defeating Au Gres-Sims 63-23. Bailey Schook paced the Tigers with 11 points; Melanie Morrison added 10 points and Emma Libby finished with nine.

With the victory, the Tigers improve to 10-4 on the season. Hillman returns to action on Wednesday as they host Atlanta.
