Rogers City selects contractor for water main

ROGERS CITY, Mich. — Rogers City locked in a contractor for an upcoming project.

During Tuesday night’s meeting, the City Council voted in favor of selecting MacArthur Construction’s bid for the First Street water main. City Manager Joe Hefele told WBKB the contractor will replace just about a mile of water main plumbing with new, up-sized pipes.

Hefele said these new pipes will better serve the city’s water needs.

“Some of the pipe we’re replacing is four inches in diameter. Under current state law, you can’t even connect fire hydrants to lines that small. So all of this, when finished, will be eight inches in diameter. It will provide better volumes to the entire system.”

Hefele said residents can also look forward to repaved roads when the project wraps up. He anticipates work will start this August.

MacArthur’s bid was approximately $1.46 million.
