Rogers City council meeting update

ROGERS CITY, Mich. — Rogers City held their monthly meeting and discussed Governor Whitmer’s Executive Order to not shut off residential water service.  Also discussed was the sale of the water tower lot and the continuation of city council remote meetings.

The governor’s executive order stopped communities from shutting customers water off.  The order was struck down earlier this month by the Michigan Supreme Court.

City Manager, Joe Hefele, said planned shut offs are coming up pretty quickly but they are trying to give residents time to catch up their accounts.

Hefele said  Governor Whitmer signed a new piece of legislation on Friday making allowances for the council meetings to continue remotely.

Also discussed was the council’s authorization to sell the property where the old city water tower on Doris Avenue was located.  The lot was sold for $15,000  and the plan is for a new home to be built in the space where the water tower once stood.
