Renovations coming to Alpena County Regional Airport

ALPENA, Mich. — The coming years are going to be constructive at Alpena County Regional Airport, to say the least.

With nearly $18 million in COVID relief money coming from the CARE act this past year, Airport Manager Steven Smigelski plans to make a lot of changes, all at no expense to Alpena county.

Aside from upgrading their current infrastructure, Smigelski wants to focus on revenue creators for the airport, which would result in less money being needed from the town. First, the plan is to construct 20 T-hangars that will be leased out monthly to owners of private aircrafts. Also with the hangars, Smigelski is planning on building a storage area for Alpena citizens to store boats, RV’s, and “summer toys.”
