Red Kettle goal met for Salvation Army of Alpena

ALPENA, Mich. – The holiday season of 2020 brought uncertainty for many as the pandemic financially affected people’s plans, and organizations like the Salvation Army was no different.

However there’s good news to share as the Salvation Army of Alpena’s Red Kettle goal was reached for 2020.

The organization received many monetary gifts and donations over the holiday season.

Major Prezza Morrison said that the community truly showed up in the face of COVID–19.

“Nationally, the salvation army thought we would be very lucky if we got 50% of our goal, because of COVID and the economic situation was going on, and the lack of people shopping, and things and we were just really concerned about that,” said Major Prezza. “I always feel that most community events I’ve been too, when it’s been like that, they know that there’s someone worse off than they are, they give generously.”

The organization collected over $155,000 to help area families throughout the holidays and to be used for other purposes for the community.

The funds will also help those in need during 2021.
