Rainy Wednesday followed by colder temperatures late-week

A storm system centered near the Missouri-Iowa border is moving northward. It will bring showers to Northeast Michigan beginning late tonight/predawn Wednesday. Showers with a possibility of a passing thunderstorm will last through Wednesday afternoon.

Future radar shows the impending arrival of showers late tonight/predawn Wednesday. Toward the end of the animation, the bullseyes in yellow and orange indicate the potential of some heavier downpours Wednesday morning.

Rainfall amounts late Tuesday night until Wednesday evening will range between 0.1 and 0.5 inches. Up to 0.5 inches will be possible in areas that get heavier downpours. Otherwise, less than a half-inch of rainfall is generally expected.

Wednesday: Rainy with a thunderstorm possible midday-afternoon. Early-morning temperatures will begin near 40 degrees. Temperatures will rise to the lower 50s by the late-morning. Afternoon highs will reach close to 62 degrees. Evening temperatures will go into the 50s.

Thursday: Dry from the predawn hours into the afternoon. A chance of rain showers or wintry mix will move in during the evening. Low temperatures will head down to about 40 degrees in the morning. Afternoon highs will be near 50 degrees. Evening temperatures will be mainly in the lower 40s and upper 30s.

Friday: Colder with a chance of snow showers or wintry mix predawn into the afternoon. Early-morning temperatures will drop to around 30 degrees. Afternoon highs will be near 40 degrees. Evening temperatures will cool to the 30s.

Also, the statewide tornado drill will take place Wednesday at 1 p.m. This time provides a good opportunity to go over where to shelter in the event of a tornado. The most interior room of the lowest floor in a well-built, sturdy structure provides the best shelter. Mobile homes and cars are never good for sheltering from a tornado. Michigan’s Severe Weather Awareness Week runs March 21-27.
