Rain overnight; Cooler Tuesday and drying out

Rain is moving in from the southwest, and periods of soaking wet weather will continue tonight. Winds will shift out of the northwest tonight. As temperatures drop, there could be a brief period of sleet or snow early Tuesday morning.

Winds out of the southwest brought warm temperatures to Northeast Michigan today. High temperatures reached 54 degrees in Alpena and 59 in Saginaw. Notice the cooler temperatures over the Upper Peninsula — some of that cooler air will move in tomorrow and Wednesday. Highs reached only 36 degrees in Marquette and 34 degrees in Duluth. Winds out of the northwest will bring cooler temperatures to our area.

Early-morning lows will cool to about 30 degrees, and a short-lived round of snow/sleet will be possible. Skies will become mostly sunny in the afternoon and highs will reach about 40 degrees. Winds out of the northwest will pick up to about 15 mph. Evening temperatures will be near 30 degrees.

Afternoon sunshine is expected Tuesday and highs will be near 40 degrees. Wednesday will be cooler, starting with temperatures in the lower 20s and highs in the upper 30s. Snow showers are expected in the morning-afternoon. Thursday will be warmer and start with dry weather. Highs will warm to about 48 degrees and a chance of rain will move in late-day.
