Rain moving in Friday; More sunshine Saturday

High temperatures today reached the lower to middle 60s across Northeast Michigan. Brisk winds from the west brought cooler temperatures that have been sitting in the Upper Plains to our area. Temperatures got up to 63 degrees in Alpena and 68 degrees in Oscoda this afternoon. Similar temperatures are expected over the next few days, afternoon highs in the lower to middle 60s.

A storm system traveling across the Upper Plains will move into our area tomorrow. The morning will begin with cloudy skies, then rain will arrive midday. Tomorrow afternoon and evening will be wet, so bring umbrellas or rain jackets to local football games or any other outdoor plans. Drier weather will move in Saturday.


Low temperatures tonight will cool to about 45 degrees and cloud cover will increase. Morning temperatures near 50 degrees are expected with cloudy skies. Winds will pick up out of the south tomorrow, gusting up to 30 mph at times. The chance of rain will become likely late-day and high temperatures will reach close to 66 degrees.

In Hillman, for tomorrow’s high school football game of the week, expect rain showers lasting most of the evening. Temperatures at kickoff will be in the lower 60s and wind speeds will be brisk at 10-15 mph. Temperatures will cool to the upper 50s by the end of the game and wind speeds will weaken to about 5 mph.

Rainfall amounts tomorrow will likely end up in the 0.5-1 inch range. Rainfall amounts close to 0.5 inch are more likely north of Alpena and in Presque Isle County. Amounts closer to 1 inch are more likely farther south, including Iosco County. Most of the rainfall will happen in the afternoon and evening hours.

Rain is most likely afternoon until nighttime tomorrow and high temperatures will reach the middle 60s. Some sunshine is likely Saturday afternoon with high temperatures getting only to the lower 60s. Early-morning low temperatures on Sunday will get very cool, around 41 degrees. Mostly cloudy skies are expected on Sunday with highs in the lower 60s. A surge of warm air from the south is forecast early next week. High temperatures will warm to the lower to middle 70s Monday and Tuesday with showery weather.
