Protestors at residency of Secretary of State

DETROIT, Mich. — Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson released a statement saying a group of people had gathered around her residence on Saturday evening.

Dozens of people surrounded her personal home, shouting into her residence with bullhorns. According to Secretary Benson, she had been decorating her house for Christmas and was watching television with her 4-year-old son when “armed individuals” disrupted their evening. These people were protesting the outcome of the Nov. 3 presidential election, demanding Benson execute a post-election audit to certify the results.

Secretary Benson is not the only government official to receive threats regarding the election. In a press conference Monday afternoon, Governor Gretchen Whitmer said that Representative Cynthia Johnson has received death threats following the hearing with Rudy Giuliani, and Speaker of the House Lee Chatfield has also been threatened. Whitmer continued to deem these actions unacceptable.

The threats come during the middle of Michigan’s attempt to certify Joe Biden as the elected president. A judge ruled against an election-based lawsuit from Republican Sidney Powell demanding electoral votes be given to incumbent Donald Trump, and federal Attorney General William Barr claimed there was no evidence of widespread voter fraud in the state of Michigan.

WBKB 11 reporters reached out to state republicans for comment, but they declined.
