Presque Isle Airport to receive repair funds.

ROGERS CITY, Mich.– After months of delays, Presque Isle County Airport is set to receive funding for runway maintenance.

The airport’s runway pavement was designed to be sturdy, but it needs maintenance to prevent erosion. Thus, the airport applies for grant funding every two years to fill in cracks during summer so that they don’t expand in the winter.

Airport manager Alan Stiller says he’s waiting on personal confirmation before hiring workers, despite the shrinking time frame for the work to be done.

“We’re getting close. The crack sealing… I talked to the contractor. They can perform that in temperatures down to about 40, 45 degrees. Once it gets below that, it kinda puts everything on hold until we get warmer weather. So… right now, fingers crossed.”

Normally, the application is filed in November, and granted the following May, with work beginning shortly afterwards. This year, COVID–related delays meant that funds weren’t confirmed until the F.A.A. announced them in a press release last week. Presque Isle County Airport is set to receive over $58,000.
