Postseason events suspended indefinitely due to concerns related to COVID-19

Just when you thought you were going to watch your family relatives compete for a district or regional title. That’s not the case anymore. At around 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, The Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) has decided to suspend postseason events immediately and indefinitely due to concerns related to COVID-19.

“Based on the events of the last 48 hours with things changing the minute, we believe we have no choice but to suspend our winter tournaments immediately,” said MHSAA Executive Director Mark Uyl. “This is a suspension until we have a better handle on the situation. The health and welfare of everyone involved is our number one priority.”

Area boys basketball teams (Oscoda, Posen, Onaway, Tawas) are very upset that they cannot compete for a district title on Friday. However, all four squads are taking this as a life lesson moving forward.

“It’s really sad,” said Posen Head Coach Chris Keller. “I’m just telling my guys to take this as a learning experience. This is how you deal with adversity. It’s really the only positive thing you can take from it.”
