Police respond to reports of shots fired near Decorative Panels International

ALPENA, MICH — Reports of shots fired were called into Alpena City police this afternoon.

Law enforcement arrived on the scene at Fort St. near Decorative Panels International. Shortly after 9 p.m. officers contacted a person of interest near the scene of the shooting and interviewed him. Alpena County 911 posted an emergency alert to Facebook this afternoon, warning residents to stay clear of the area. Police gave us an update on the investigation.

“Officers responded moments later and contacted several workers who had been up on the roof doing some maintenance work. Nobody was injured during this incident and there’s not an active shooter at this time. We’ve heard that rumor kind of going around, there’s not an active shooter at this time, so we want to clarify that.”

Police chief, Joel Jett says shots were not fired in the D.P.I. building. They are thought to have come from the surrounding area.

While the investigation continues, police say it’s safe for residents to return home.
