Point-In-Time survey to help assess homeless problem

Alpena- The Northeast Michigan Community Service Agency will be conducting a Point-In-Time survey next Wednesday, January 31st to help assess and examine the homeless population within the five county area.

Those counties include Alpena, Alcona, Iosco, Montmorency, and Presque Isle. The purpose is to get an accurate count in order to see how much federal money is needed to assist each person. It also helps identify homeless people and works to get them the assistant, helping them find shelter and get back on their feet. Residents are asked to be observant this week and if they notice someone who may be homeless, call NEMSCA at 989-358-4678. The call is anonymous. In addition, folks are asked to check and see if anyone is living in a place that is not meant for human habitations to assist volunteers who will carry out the count.
