ALPENA, Mich.– The Besser Museum and Alpena County Library teamed up with the Susan Lane Foundation to create a new attraction this month. Now, it may be here to stay. The Besser Museum Poetry Walk was launched at the beginning of the month as an exhibit people could enjoy outdoors while remaining socially distanced. Each post features a poem from a contemporary Michigan poet or historical poet, all selected by the Susan Lane foundation.
According to the library’s head of public services Christina Markowski, this installation has seen more foot traffic than expected.
“So, we’re discussing possibly making it a permanent addition to the Besser Musuem, and using it to display things from the community and working with other community organizations to display things on it.”
You can see the poetry walk for yourself at the Besser Museum. The library, meanwhile, has reopened between Big Lots and JoAnn’s with curbside pickup for borrows available.
