Plane show visitors unbothered by fog

ALPENA, Mich. — This summer we’ve had shows for vehicles on land and sea. Saturday, aircraft got their turn in the spotlight.

Even though the morning fog grounded the planes, people still turned out to see the Experimental Aircraft Association’s annual show.

Normally, the Alpena chapter of the EAA takes visitors up for flights and skydiving.

However, Saturday’s visitors, especially the kids, seemed content with admiring the many flying machines on display.

EAA member Shawn Ballor said one of the planes on display was incredibly rare.

“I believe it’s a Mooney Cadet that a member just recently purchased. There were only about 59 ever made. His was number 50, so there’s only about 30 of those planes flying today.”

Visitors also got to enjoy a hot meal and take a look at some vintage model airplanes.
