Pinwheels Placed in Front of Alcona Co. Courthouse in Honor of Child Abuse and Neglect Month
If you drive down US 23 you may see blue pinwheels spinning in front of the Alcona County Courthouse, that’s because one organization is trying to raise awareness on a major issue taking over Northeast Michigan.
April is Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Month, and to shed light on this topic the CANPAC Council planted over 120 pinwheels. According to the Kid’s Count Data Center, 27 percent of children 17 and under were victims of child abuse and neglect in Alcona County in 2016.
The organization is encouraging residents in the area to speak up if they believe a child is being abused.
