ALPENA, Mich. — As we prepare our wallets for Black Friday, students at Pied Piper prepare for a sale of their own.
Every year, students in the woodshop class spend months building home–made products for their holiday shop.
Students develop handiwork and team skills while making the items. And when they open shop, they build customer service and social skills.
Instructor Rachel Wetherhult said profits go back into the program for further improvements.
“We actually just purchased a Cricket for the school. So the kids have been learning that program and cutting out images and making all the things you see here on display.”
One student named Steven told us his favorite part of the program is the sense of community.
“My favorite part is to be with some new friends I made along the way.”
The shop opens for a pre–Thanksgiving sale Wednesday from 9 to 2.
The Christmas sale runs December 3-5 from 9 AM to 2 PM. There will also be an after hours sale from 5 to 7 PM.
