Petition calls for immediate resignation of school board member

ALPENA, Mich. – Alpena Public Schools Board of Education Trustee Steven Donajkowski has issued his letter of resignation on Monday, Feb. 15.

Donajkowski came under fire recently for his social media conduct, and a petition circling the internet calling for his immediate resignation had gained over 150 signatures prior to his announcement. The letter of resignation was read at a school board meeting on Monday.

The online petition called for the Donajkowski to step down after he made Facebook comments about Vice President Kamala Harris that many have called vulgar and misogynistic.

“Such vulgar, misogynistic statements by an elected leader can be demoralizing to all of us, and this man is supposed to be leading our schools,” Molly Stepanski, creator of the petition writes. “Can we please recognize that this man does not deserve to represent us, or make decisions about their children?”

Donajkowski also came under fire this summer for posting a meme captioned “All Lives Splatter,” in relation to the Black Lives Matter movement. WBKB reached out to Donajkowski prior to his resignation, however he said it was best not to comment at that time.
