Oscoda Owls looking for success in 2021

OSCODA, Mich. — “It’s a great day to be in Oscoda, and it’s a great day to be an Owl,” said Coach Mark Whitley during his team’s last practice before the 2021 season.

After having to draw circles on the field and avoid the weight room in 2020, the Owls are looking forward to having a normal season together again. While the COVID-19 pandemic may have changed some aspects of our daily lives, it hasn’t changed Coach Whitley’s expectations for his team this season.

“Our expectation, as always, is to do the best we can.” said Coach Whitley. “Win a league championship, get in the playoffs and then make a run.”

Senior Kaden Schirmer has some high expectations, too.

“Win as many games as possible,” Schirmer said. “Make it to the playoffs, win a couple games, maybe not all of them.”

With postseason football on their minds, team chemistry is a main focus for the Owls this year. They call it a brotherhood.

“We’ve always been a brotherhood,” said Quarterback Anthony Ward. “We play as a team and we get stuff done.”

“All of our teams- it’s a brotherhood,” said Coach Whitley. “It’s a brotherhood. They’re very tight together, they work hard together as a team. I think that team concept is what binds us year in and year out.”
