Oscoda Owls Beats Tawas Area in Season Opener

TAWAS, Mich. — It is finally here. The 2021 High School Football Season!

We begin our coverage for the year down in Tawas for the classic rivalry game between the Oscoda Owls and the Tawas braves. Last year, Oscoda was able to take the game 46-0 but the Braves were looking to bounce back.

The stands were packed for Tawas’ first game of the season. First half was a defensive battle with Oscoda getting a big fumble recovery thanks to a huge hit from Senior Trevor Miller.

Tawas’ defense wouldn’t back down after the turnover though holding Oscoda to a 4th down stop in their own red zone. The Tawas defense and bench got very hyped after that huge stop! Going into the half, Tawas held the lead 8-0.

Oscoda though would fire back after the half with a beautiful Jet Sweep from around midfield with Damon Burrows taking it all the way to the house to tie the game in the 3rd 8-8.

Tawas would keep pace however with a nice run up the middle from Lukas Herrick. He finds paydirt for six points and they pick up the 2 point conversion after the fact.

Oscoda though would keep their foot on the gas and were just too much in the second half in both the 3rd and 4th quarters. Quarterback Anthony Ward with the option would not go down and take it all the way to the endzone for a huge touchdown.

Oscoda would end up scoring five touchdowns in the second half alone and they would take Game 1 over the Braves 36-16. It’s their fifth straight win over Tawas.
