Nursing homes in Michigan to allow visitations

ALPENA, Mich.—Family members can now visit their loved ones at nursing homes. Director Robert Gorden with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services signed an epidemic order allowing visitation, but with some restrictions.

At the Besser Senior Living facility, only outdoor visits are allowed. Each senior resident is permitted two visitors per session and social distancing must be observed.

Visitors and seniors are required to wear face coverings and visits are prohibited if individuals exhibit COVID–19 symptoms. Since the start of the pandemic, many changes have been made.

According to Karsten, senior residents are required to take health screenings every two hours and vital signs are checked at every shift change. Small social group activities have recently resumed, but with social distancing guidelines.
