New sweet shop pays homage to law enforcement
ALPENA, Mich. — A new shop downtown is bringing state–famous sweets to the Alpena area, as well as highlighting local law enforcement.
When you walk through the door at Galley Sweet Shop, you’ll see more than donuts and cookies on display. You’ll find items from the Alpena Police Department and Sheriff’s Office. The décor is in theme with the shop’s most popular item: Clare County’s famous Cops and Doughnuts pastries.
Business owner and retired nurse Gayle Bruski says the style is more than a superficial homage.
“We worked with police in a variety of ways. We worked with the transport system and the protection of people in our community. So this is an effort to honor them.”
The shop also carries local art, as well as tasty treats from across the mitten.
