New report is good news for Michigan’s tourism industry

ALPENA, Mich. — After nearly a year of stay-at-home orders, a new report indicates that Americans are more likely to travel as  vaccine accessibility has increased.  The most recent Longwoods International survey of American travelers said that U.S. trip planning is growing dramatically.  In the survey released in February, 80 percent of respondents indicated that they plan to travel within the next six months.  That is up from 65 percent just a month ago and it is the highest level Longwoods has measured since the pandemic began.

Dave Lorenz, vice president of Travel Michigan said the report is good news for Michigan’s tourism industry. He explained that travelers are looking for experiences that Michigan offers.

“As people have now discovered how they can travel safely here in Michigan and elsewhere around the world, I think people are starting to understand that we are on the other side of this situation,” said Lorenz.  “Michigan has that perfect mix of nature and urban experiences that people are looking for today.  Michigan is best know for big, open spaces and that’s what people are looking for right now,” he said.
