Nature’s Kingdom gains new, “lucky” resident

HERRON, Mich. — This 11–week–old fox pup was fortunate to stumble into one Herron resident’s yard two weeks ago.

He had a compound fracture and his left foreleg was rotting away. The woman who found him immediately called Michelle Sobek, owner of nature’s Kingdom Wildlife Rehab.

His injuries were so drastic that Sobek told the person who found him to meet her at Switzer Veterinary Clinic.

“That evening, we admitted him with Dr. Danielle Knight. And they scheduled surgery. They sent us home with antibiotics and an IV bag.”

People donated over $400 through Facebook to help pay for the amputation. The pup, now named Lucky, is doing very well in recovery. He’s getting a lot of bed rest, and soon he’ll be ready to learn more about being a fox.

Who’s going to teach Lucky? Another three-legged fox named Clive!

Clive’s taught many pups the basics of hunting, exploring and fishing so they can be released. Sobek said Lucky’s future is also in education.

“He’s going to join our other resident tripod Clive in hopefully teaching other foxes that come in how to be a fox.”

We wish Lucky a speedy recovery.
