Mostly Sunny Wednesday; Summer Starts Thursday

A clearing trend and a drier air mass are moving in from the northwest, while scattered showers and thunderstorms from Missouri to Virginia will remain to our south. The boundary bringing the rain and thunderstorms is also keeping the truly hot temperatures and high humidity suppressed to the south.

Today’s high temperature was 71 degrees in Alpena and lower 70s were common across the Northeast Michigan. Areas at the shoreline had a slightly cooler day where high temperatures were in the upper 60s because of a light breeze out of the east.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny and a few degrees warmer with a light breeze out of the north. High temperatures will warm into the upper 70s or near 80 degrees inland, and lower 70s closer to Lake Huron.

The countdown to summer is on — summer will start at 6:07 AM on Thursday. However, it will be a cool start to summer with a forecast high of 71 degrees.

Wednesday will be mostly sunny and the warmest day of the week with a high of 79 degrees in Alpena. Summer will start with sunny skies on Thursday, though slightly cool with a high of 71 degrees. On Friday, clouds will increase and then showers are forecast for the start of the weekend. The showers should clear late Saturday, and Sunday should be drier though cloudy.
