More wet weather on the way through Friday and over the weekend

Waves of showers are circulating around an area of low pressure centered near the Minnestoa-Iowa border. Locally, showers are moving in from the south-southeast, traveling toward the north-northwest, rotating around the center of the storm system. We have already begun to see rain showers falling in Alpena and rounds of showers will continue into Friday.

Temperatures Thursday were cooler lakeside compared to areas farther inland. Highs reached 62 degrees in Alpena, 60 degrees in Oscoda, while temperatures warmed to 79 degrees in Atlanta and 78 degrees in West Branch.

A look at future rainfall amounts through the end of Sunday could total close to 0.75 inches throughout Northeast Michigan. The numbers plotted below include combined accumulations for Friday, Saturday and Sunday which each have chances of rain showers.

Friday: Scattered showers mainly predawn and in the afternoon, there could be some periods of dry weather in the morning. Early-morning temperatures will begin close to 50 degrees. Afternoon highs will reach about 63 degrees. Evening temperatures will be in the middle/lower 50s.

Saturday: The first half of the day is looking dry, then showers will move in late-day. Predawn lows will head down to about 45 degrees. Afternoon highs will get up to around 64 degrees. Evening temperatures will head to the lower 50s or near 50 degrees.

Sunday: Showers in the morning, slightly cooler. Predawn temperatures will be close to 46 degrees. Afternoon highs will be close to 58 degrees. Evening temperatures will cool from the lower 50s to middle 40s.
