More Speed Limit Changes to Take Place
Some changes are set to take place soon on the county roads. The Alpena County Road Commission has approved more speed limit changes.
Previously speed limits on a portion of long rapids road west of Bagley Street were increased to 45mph, and up to 55 mph beyond Bernice Lane.
The board has also approved speed increases on French Road. A 45mph limit increase will be imposed between U–S 23 and Hamilton Road. It will be 55mph afterward. Discussion for speed limit increases for some county roads started last September in 2016.
State police traffic studies revealed that in most cases, motorists were operating well above the posted limits in the areas mentioned.
Now that Long Rapids and French Road have been addressed, the next speed limit increase target area is said to be a portion of Hubbard Lake Road, where speed limits of 45 and 35 beginning near Ratz road, may be eliminated.
