Millage Renewal: MSU Extension to host virtual informational sessions for Iosco and Alcona County residents

ALPENA, Mich. — Residents in Alcona and Ioscoa County are invited to attend virtual informational meetings to learn more about how millage tax rates help fund Michigan State University Extension programs.  The August 4 Primary will ask voters to approve millage renewals for five years.

A virtual meeting will be held Thursday, June 25 at 5 p.m. for residents in Ioscoa County.  Residents can access the meeting link and get additional information by visiting the MSU Extension website.

A virtual information meeting for Alcona County residents will be held Monday, June 29 at 7 p.m.

MSU District 4 Director Julie Darnton said extension programs cover a lot of ground, including youth development, nutrition programming and disease prevention and community development.  She said her office is looking forward to answering questions from the community.

“We know that many people are receiving ballots right now.  Many people are doing a mail-in vote this year.  We really appreciate the fact that we have an opportunity to talk to voters right now as they will actually be filling out their ballots.”

Darnton said she’s hopeful the request for millage renewal will pass, but she won’t take voters for granted.

“We understand making an investment in extension is a consideration that people will have to make in terms of their budget, but we also want them to recognize that what they can receive for those funds, we hope is of value to them,” she said.
