Alpena, Mich. — MidMichigan Health Center in Alpena was named a Top 100 Rural and Community Hospital by The Chartis Center for Rural Health, and was one of four hospitals in the state to receive the Improvement Award from the Economic Alliance for Michigan.

“We are proud of the efforts that our entire team of employees and health care providers have put forth to our achieving these honors this month,” said Chuck Sherwin, FACHE, president of MidMichigan Medical Center Alpena. “The recognition by Chartis, as well as the Economic Alliance for Michigan is a reflection in the hard work and dedication we give each and every day for our patients and our community.”

The Top 100 Rural & Community Hospital acknowledgement by The Chartis Center is the 11th annual program honoring outstanding performance among the nation’s rural hospitals based on the results of the Hospital Strength INDEX®. The EAM, a non-profit group comprised of Michigan’s largest employers and unions, has hosted the EAM Hospital Patient Safety Awards for six years in a row. Hospitals can achieve two different awards, the Excellence Award and the Improvement Award. The Medical Center in Alpena was one of four hospitals in Michigan to receive the Improvement Award.
