Alpena- Tomorrow, just over 30 people will dive into the chilly waters of Long Lake to help raise money for the Michigan’s Special Olympics.

Currently, residents and sponsorship partners have raised just over $15,000 for the organization. This year, Alpena’s Polar Plunge plans on raising over $20,000 in donations by tomorrow. Folks can still register for the event either online or at the event.

Michigan’s Special Olympics has over 23,000 athletes so events like the Polar Plunge helps pay for transportation and registration for the games and events that happen throughout Michigan. 50% of the proceeds go back to Alpena’s Special Olympians for the state games. Every donation counts for the organization.

Registration begins at noon near the Sand Bar & Grill on Long Lake Rd. The parade of costumes kicks off at 1:15pm. Folks can head to the Sand Bar after the plunge for a celebration. You can register at the link right here https://www.firstgiving.com/polarplunge/alpena2018
