Michigan residents urged to get flu shots

ALPENA, Mich. — The COVID–19 pandemic has been overwhelming for many and as flu season approaches, it can be even scarier.

With fall arriving, flu shots are being highly recommended this season.  Michigan residents are encouraged to get vaccinated now to protect themselves before flu activity increases.  Flu season begins in October and runs through the end of March or April.

MidMichigan Pulmonologist Dr. Daniel Maxwell said with COVID–19 and flu season upon us, it is critical that you get the flu shot now.  Maxwell also explained the importance of the shot for both COVID–19 and the flu.  Maxwell urges getting the flu shot and says it decreases your chances of getting the flu by a significant percentage.

He says many people may get a low grade fever or feel a little discomfort thereafter.  Maxwell further explains that reaction is your body fighting off the flu virus.
