Michigan Representative to Congress leaves Republican Party

DRYDEN, Mich. — Rep. Paul Mitchell, a House member representing Michigan’s 10th district, is leaving the republican party after their efforts to undermine election results in Michigan and other states.

On Monday, Dec. 14, Mitchell requested the Clerk of the House to change his party affiliation to “Independent.” In a letter to the party, Mitchell stated that he is withdrawing from his engagement and association with the Republican Party at both the state and national level.

In an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper, Mitchell stated his disgust and disappointment in President Trump’s behavior following the election were the main factors in his decision making.

Mitchell is retiring at the end of the year, and Republican candidate Lisa McClain has won the District 10 seat in the 2020 election.
