Michigan participates in work share program
ALPENA, Mich -In a press release earlier this week, the state of Michigan announced it would participate in the Unemployment Insurance Agency work share program set to begin tomorrow, May 17.
This has been put into effect to offset budget implications as a result of the state’s response to the COVID–19 pandemic
As part of the program, Â impacted state employees will take two temporary layoff days per pay period.
Governor Whitmer stated that utilizing this federal program keeps state employees working and protects their paychecks so they can continue supporting their families.
Impacted employees will be automatically enrolled into the unemployment process and will retain their health insurance and other benefits.
The program is expected to continue until July 25th.
