Michigan could receive 84K doses of Pfizer vaccine as early as next week

LANSING, Mich. — The state’s Chief Medical Executive Dr. Joneigh Khaldun said Michigan could be ready to distribute a COVID vaccine as early as next week.  Doctor Khaldun said based on recent estimates from the federal government, Michigan will receive approximately 84,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine if it becomes available next week.  Dr. Khaldun also said Michigan would  receive an estimated 173,000 does of  the Moderna vaccine when it is approved.  Both the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are in the final stages of approval.

The first priority for vaccinations will be frontline healthcare workers as well as people living and working in long-term care facilities.  Dr. Khaldun said the state health department hopes to be able to offer the vaccine to the general public by late spring.
