MHSAA plans on easing “dead week” period

EAST LANSING, Mich. — As of now, high school sports are returning this upcoming fall. However, that may change due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Every summer for seven consecutive days, all high school athletic activities across the state of Michigan are required to shut down, but this year is different.

According to Mlive.com, the MHSAA (Michigan High School Athletic Association) has announced this years “dead week” is optional if schools reopen on time for summer activities.

Organized team activities are still scheduled to start in the beginning of June. However, Michigan still remains under the “Stay Home Stay Safe” order. If fall sports return to action as scheduled, below are the following dates on when each sport returns.

Football: August 10th
Cross Country: August 12th
Boys Soccer: August 12th
Girls Golf (Lower Peninsula): August 12th
Boys Tennis (Lower Peninsula): August 12th
Girls Tennis (Upper Peninsula): August 12th
Girls Swimming (Lower Peninsula): August 12th
Volleyball: August 12th
