Methamphetamine effects for users
ALPENA, Mich. — In a recent report on methamphetamine use we informed the community of signs to look for if you suspect your loved one is a user. Today we report on the damaging effects this drug has on people.
According to HUNT Detective Lt. Stuart Sharp, over the last few years they have been faced with challenges involving meth that they have never experienced in the past.
Former meth user Ty Reed said he immediately fell in love with the drug when he first tried it. Reed said he went through periods where he worked for days at a time because the drug gave him such an energy boost. Reed’s meth use would eventually send him to rock bottom resulting in several arrests, homelessness and suicide attempts.
MidMichigan Medical Center – Alpena Dr. Adam Heinemann explained how damaging this drug can be.
Reed has been clean since January 2019. He said recovery is not often a straight line and it takes people a few times to start and fail.
Reed adds that temptation will always be there but surrounding yourself with the right people helps.
