Memorial Day Parade Kicks Off Series of Events for Alpena

The city of Alpena was a busy day celebrating Memorial Day, starting off with the annual Courthouse Ceremony and Parade.

It was a gorgeous Monday morning as families, Veterans, and organizations gathered outside of the Alpena County Courthouse to kick off Memorial Day celebrations with the annual Courthouse Ceremony, and Parade.

The March from South 9th Avenue to Little Flanders Field is a day for Boys and Girl Scouts, along with Veterans, and other community members to join forces to pave the walkway for those who died serving the United States.

The Boys Scouts of Alpena have been in the parade for over 50 years.

Scout Leader, Chris Harsh said he has been apart of the event for at least 17 years, and makes it mandatory to march for those who lost their lives fighting in wars for the country.

Before the parade the guest speaker reminded everyone that Memorial Day was not only about taking time off to enjoy barbeques, with family and friends, but to reflect on those who died. Following the ceremony was a lying of flowers along with the National Anthem and prayer before the parade march.
