Meijer’s Simply Give Campaign provides 874,000 meals for local St. Vincent de Paul in 2017

Alpena- In 2017, Meijer’s Simply Give Campaign was able to raise $87,400 for St. Vincent de Paul’s Emergency Food Pantry.

According to Feeding America, $1 equals 10 meals so that equates to 874,000 meals provided by the generous Alpena community. The way that the Simply Give campaign works is that customers at Meijer purchase $10 gift cards that go directly to St. Vincent de Paul. Three times a year, the campaign is active for weeks at a time.

Of the three Northern Michigan Meijers, Alpena’s Meijer was able to raise the most money for this campaign. Both Meijer Store Director Warren Richter and Food Pantry Coordinator Cathy McClure mentioned the giving attitude of the Alpena community and when residents are called to action, they act, donate, and work to make a better community.

Since the campaign started in 2008, over $37,000,000 has been donated to local food pantries throughout the USA.
