MDHHS makes changes to coronavirus reporting method
ALPENA, MI. — The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services is changing the way it reports coronavirus data. To make the numbers more accurat, an update to the COVID19 data reporting website now categorizes results of*two types of tests, serology and diagnostic.
Serology testing uses antibodies to determine if a person has ever had coronavirus, while traditional diagnostic testing determines whether a person has the active disease.
This change does not alter the total number of coronavirus cases that have been confirmed so far. It does, however lower the percentage of positive cases reported in the past 11 days since serology testing has become more common.
