WASHINGTON, D.C. — The latest jobs report found that the United States created over 916,000 new jobs in March- more than twice as many as February and the most since August of 2020, according to the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Leisure and hospitality businesses led the way, as more than 250,000 Americans returned to their jobs at restaurants and hotels. Construction firms were next, adding 110,000 jobs in March. The unemployment rate dropped from 6.2 percent in Feb. to 6.0 percent in March.

“The benefits and the impact of the American Rescue Plan are temporary by design,” President Joe Biden said. “It is a rescue plan. But as we get the economy back on its feet, we need to do the hard work of building back better…not just for a while, but for good. Not just the short term, but for good.”

The country is still over 8 million jobs shy of where it was before the pandemic. Experts say that this recent growth is promising, and those jobs could be back in just months.
