Man dies in fire at marijuana facility

(Photo Courtesy/Oscoda Township: Destination Oscoda) A fire has lef one man dead and destroyed a medical marijuana facility in downtown Oscoda on Tuesday afternoon.

[Correction: 5/8/2019 2:00 p.m. The building is not a medical marijuana facility. It is a property used to facilitate the production of marijuana and marijuana products for medical marijuana patients.]

Oscoda Township, Mich. — A 46-year-old man has died in a fire at a marijuana facility.

Emergency crews responded to 5003 Cedar Lake Rd just after 1:15 p.m. The former retail property turned facility for producing marijuana was up in flames and engulfed in heavy smoke. First responders were able to remove the man from the building but unable to resuscitate him. The victim was pronounced deceased on the scene.

His identity has not been released yet. According to Oscoda Township Police Department, the man was associated with the facility used for production of marijuana and marijuana products for medical marijuana patients. Investigators are still trying to determine what caused the fire.
