M-32 at Bagley Street will become a roundabout

ALPENA, Mich. – M–32 at Bagley Street will look totally different in a few years.

The Michigan Department of Transportation’s 5–year Program includes constructing a roundabout at m–32 and Bagley Street.

MDOT said after a careful study, the state believes a roundabout will help reduce accidents in the area.

While the project is still in its early stages, MDOT said they don’t want residents getting anxious when thinking of roundabouts.

“Roundabouts have the benefit of handling more traffic than a signal or a four–way intersection,” said MDOT Media Relations Representative James Lake. “We understand when putting in a roundabout that it’s a new feature for a community, once people get used to them, they recognize the benefits and see the serious crash reductions.”

Lake said the roundabout becomes the first on a state highway in northeast Michigan.

The project is scheduled for construction in 2026.

MDOT will host public forums as construction nears.
