Local travel teams prepare for 2020 season

ALPENA, Mich. — Little League baseball and softball may have been cancelled due to the Coronavirus. However, with Governor Gretchen Whitmer starting to re-open Michigan, travel leagues will still be playing this summer.

The Thundercats 14U and the Blockheads 9U and 11U teams were back in action. On Monday, all three teams held practice at the Alpena Huron Shores Complex. Teams were working on their hitting, pitching, fielding, and their base-running. Overall, the kids are pleased that they get to play ball this summer and are happy to be back on the diamond.

“It feels good to be back on the field with my teammates,” said Bryson Collegnon. “Feels good to be hitting, pitching, and catching again.”

The Thundercats 14U team starts their season on June 26th at Traverse City. The 11U Blockheads will make their season debut this weekend at Saginaw, while the 9U team will start their season sometime next month.
