Local musicians getting back in the groove

ALPENA, Mich.– Brenda and Steve Hatley set up with their friend Jami in Culligan Plaza Saturday. These street performers have been part of Alpena’s music scene for years, and have been performing in the city’s outdoor spaces since May.

Outdoor shows like these will still be important going forward, as indoor venues will still be closed for some time. According to Brenda, musicians have been resorting to a number of different methods to support themselves.

“There have been a lot of online streaming concerts that you can pay to view. There are a lot of artists who are streaming and simply asking for donations. I’ve also seen places such as the Musicians Foundation that are offering help to musicians.”

Brenda and Steve’s set included classic rock, blues, and country.
