Local businesses see better turnout for this 4th of July

ALPENA, Mich. — Now that Michigan is fully reopened, this 4th of July will look very different from 2020.  That’s great news for local businesses.

Louie and Hanlie Engelbrecht, owners of Big Bear Lodge in Alpena said there’s been a noticeable uptick in business – one they welcome ahead of the holiday weekend.

“You can see the whole town is busy, not just us.  It’s not lot last year this time,” said Louie Engelbrecht.

AAA Travel said travel in the state is rebounding from last year.  About 1.5 million Michigan residents are forecast to take a trip during the holiday weekend.

James and Sandra Allen, co-owners of Good Times Family Camp Ground in Hillman said they’re expecting a full house this weekend too.

“It’s going to be completely packed this weekend,” said Jame Alllen.  “We’ve got a lot of people excited about coming up. We’re even planning a fire works show for the campers,” he said.

The Allens said they have everything for travelers wanting to spend the holiday outdoors.  They said the camp ground spans 100 acres and offers 74 camp sites to choose from.
