Alpena — It’s was a busy Giving Tuesday all over the Sunrise Side.

Many organizations held little celebrations and activities to show their thanks and encourage folks to donate. Art in the Loft in downtown Alpena had a pretty cool way for people to leave their mark..

Folks could grab a brush, throw on a smock, and paint one of the fish that will be featured on the redone fish mural in downtown. Kids and adults could stop by all afternoon to help with painting. Art in the Loft does this as a way to say thank you for donations and show how their art programs can help enhance the community.

“It’s getting the human touch, getting our community members actively actually creating and being a part of the process, so that they have something… they can go back to years after,” said Art in the Loft Executive Director Justin Christensen-Cooper.

Donations from Giving Tuesday will help continue five different programs the organization promotes. They provide art outreach to the community, visual culinary art classes, ‘Art Pop’ which introduces art to children, the reach program which works with special needs students, and the ready, set, create program for area 4th graders.
