Alpena — Community members of Living Hope Church rolled up their sleeves and packed shoe boxes full of goodies for kids all over the world as part of Operation Christmas Child.

This packing session marks year eight for the faith community and the fourth year for  Pastor Lee Blanchard. This year will prove to be the best yet due to the space. The church recently moved out to M-32 into a large facility.

“It helps not only with storage but also we need more people to pack those boxes, and so we’ve had a lot of people, as you can see, come out and help us,” said Blanchard. “There’s a lot more space to be able to do that, to serve the lord, serve the community, and serve the world.”

The goal for this gathering is to pack 1,200 boxes full of goods. The assembly line system helps each member of the community contribute, and efficiently put together each box with all necessary items. Once the boxes are packed and shipped, the church will find out where they went to and how they helped the kids. Last year, the boxes assembled were sent to Uganda.
