Late-day rain/snow showers Thursday; Colder Friday

The high temperature in Alpena today reached 35 degrees, 29 degrees in Houghton, and 43 degrees in Saginaw. A breeze out of the south will bring slightly warmer temperatures tomorrow. A brief shot of colder air will arrive Friday, and not last very long.

Skies will remain dry tonight and partial clearing is expected. The next storm system is currently over northern Minnesota and North Dakota producing a mix of snow and rain showers. This will move into our area Thursday afternoon, likely beginning as rain showers then changing to snow showers in the evening.

Tomorrow will start with mostly cloudy conditions. Although ‘Futurecast’ is painting all blue over our area tomorrow afternoon (modeling snowfall), it should be warm enough for rain showers. Periods of snow will continue from Thursday evening to Friday morning. Then gradual clearing will get underway Friday afternoon and evening.

Overnight lows will cool to about 20 degrees. Morning temperatures will be in the middle 20s. Afternoon highs will warm to about 39 degrees with a breeze out of the south. Temperatures will cool to the middle and lower 30s Thursday evening with a change from rain to snow showers expected.

High temperatures will reach the upper 30s or possibly close to 40 degrees Thursday afternoon. Friday will be cooler with a breeze out of the north and highs in the lower 30s. Saturday will start with cold temperatures, lows near 10 degrees, and afternoon highs will get to the lower 40s. Even warmer temperatures will move in Sunday.
