Alpena — The Lady Wildcats are looking to have a stronger season after losing in the first round of districts, and this year they have New Head Volleyball Coach Kolby Andrews at the helm. Andrews, a Petoskey native, has 9 years of coaching experience in Texas.

Now Andrews is happy to be back in his home state of Michigan and coach a Big North Conference team at the same school as his wife Erin Andrews.

The girls love the speed heightened level of competition that Andrews has added to practice.

“He always pushes us to be fast and even just anything to snap your arm, reach higher or swing faster he’s doing a lot better, said senior Adrianna Dumtow. “I like it a lot and I think we are going to do way better this year.”

There are six returning seniors to the roster and all of them have to fight hard to keep their spot.

“I see a better energy all around,” said senior setter Allison Precord. “We’re talking, we’re communicating well and I like it this year.”

The green and white take the court for their first big home game against Traverse City Central on Wednesday, August 29 at 6 p.m.
