Increased patrol on highways M65 and M33

ALPENA, Mich. — Michigan State Police will begin their 2020 summer traffic initiative and is asking the public to do its part to keep the roads safe.

The purpose of the initiative is to give more attention to roads with increased traffic during the summer months.

According to Public Information Officer, Lt. Derrick Carroll, the initiative is also in place to enforce safer travel for all motorists.

Carroll said there are specific thoroughfares that have seen traffic increases resulting in a heavier police presence.

In addition to driving safely, Carroll wants to remind everyone of what to do should you see first responders while traveling.

The patrol presence will begin tomorrow July 31st and will continue every Friday and Sunday through Labor Day weekend
